Happy New Year 2012

I am thankful for many things this year 2011
  • I’m still alive… even when sometimes feels like a burden there are days I am happy that I am alive…
  • I still have my family & friends.
  • I fell in love with South Korea, Kdramas, Kpop and the whole Hallyu Wave makes sense to me now.
  • I have discovered a new world and made new friends thanks to what I mentioned above.
  • I spent 6 months in US and discovered that no matter where you go even in the hardest day there is now place like HOME! I never got home sick but I did compared a lot of things and yes there is no place like HOME.
  • I’m thankful for you… yes you dear follower. Thank you for been here supporting and reading.
  • Last but not least. I am a happy BANA.
To you I wish the best this new year. That you get the enough strength to overcome all your hardships and make it to your goals. Lots of blessings and looking forward to what this new year brings for us.

Lots of blessing for you on this new year.
2012 Bring it ON! I am ready.

Words You Shouldn't Believe

I am gonna leave this song here. If I ever go to South Korean... and this band 넬(Nell) is performing I would LOVE to see them play this song LIVE. It is quite amazing. The arrangements are so good. They even made a softer version on Lets Take a Walk you can listen to it here. I have to admit that I fell in love with them thanks to this version of the song. But overall they are really really good. The Trace is a 2 disc DVD from their concert Stay back in 2008.

The KPop Fandom

I found this article related to KPop fandoms and I have to admit it should be called 101 or Intro to KPop Fandom. The 10 Reasons the autor talk about are all true. In the year that I have been engaged on this KPop relationship the only reason I have not experienced yet... but I am looking forward to at least see... is number 9 the fanchants. Other thing I would love to do as part of the kpop  fandom is obviously attend one of any of my favorite groups concert to see and be part of this and this... then cry my heart out while doing it. About reason number 10 I have not experienced the "a member of a group leaves or a group splits up" -at least of a group that I cared about- but I did went thru the whole "my bia is going to the military for 2yrs" thing. It is so bad and dramatic. You have no idea.

It is true that you won't find this in any other fandom. There is not ONE like it. KPop takes all the awards of best and worst fandom. Believe me. Bitches be crazy sometimes.

Anyways I will just copy paste the whole thing here. Make sure you watch the videos so you can get a real idea of what they talk about. It can be see is something funny or something scary.

by Victoria Huynh on Thursday, June 2, 2011 9:00PM

If you’ve just recently stepped into the Kpop world, then you’ve probably noticed the Kpop fandom is definitely not like the rest you see when it comes to American music. We are a different species compared to the teeny boppers out there, we’re special. There are a lot of us in this fandom and I’m sure we all got into it one way or another, whether it be by your friend showing you a picture of the hottest Korean guy in the world, hearing a Kpop song on a random website, or accidentally clicking on a Youtube video that changed your life forever. Here are my 10 reasons why being in the Kpop fandom is a unique world compared to the rest.
1.The first thing you might notice is that not everyone in the fandom is Korean. In fact, there are fan girls of almost every single race in the world. And no, not everyone understands Korean either. Some people ask why we listen to it even when we don’t understand it and think it’s weird, and here’s how we answer it: We shrug a little and say, “Because it sounds nice.” And this is why we love subtitles.
2. There’s a must-know key word in our dictionary that’s commonly used, it is the word Spazz. Fangirls in this world love to spazz. We like to discuss about our idols on forums, news portals, and just about anywhere we can. Spazzing can include screaming “Oh my god! Did you hear about…” a lot, flinging your arms around and jumping up and down while talking non-stop about your idol, nose bleeding, squealing, and having everyone around you think you’re crazy.
3. In the fandom, there are a lot of fan bases. We like to identify ourselves with names to represent our groups. Common ones are Cassies, VIPs, Shawols, Hottests, ELF, Sones, B2uty, and much, much more. However, names are not enough. Groups also have colors! I mean, how else are you going to represent yourself at a concert? Cassies are red, ELFs are sapphire blue, Sones are pink, and so on. Just make sure you pick the right color for your lightstick, balloon, and banner, and you’re all set for a concert!

4. When a group makes a comeback, a term that is also commonly used in Kpop even though they didn’t really go anywhere, fangirls are superior when it comes to finding out when a new teaser and music video will be released. We have a tendency to stay up until 3AM in the morning just to wait for it to be released. As you can tell, we are not patient enough to wait until the next day. And of course, when you’re done watching it, you’ll look like this:

And nope, we don’t just watch it once, we intend to kill the replay button.
5. When something big like that happens, beware because that’s when fangirls can pretty much crash and take over a lot of websites. We can hyperventilate and get super excited and all click on the same website at once to watch whatever new has been released or start trending something on Twitter. Oh, trust me, we can get something to trend #1 worldwide pretty quickly. We also have a habit of checking Kpop news sites every five minutes.

6. All the fans in the fandom are married, even if they’re underage, and no official ceremony took place, they’re still married. And better yet, they always have more than one husband. Many fan girls consider their favorite idols as their boyfriend, hubby, and absolute soulmate. If you ask a Kpopper “Who’s that guy on your desktop wallpaper,” most likely, the answer will be, “My husband.” The marriage may be fake, but the love for our idols is always true.
7. And when someone disses our idols, we automatically if not out-loud, then inside our mind, we go “OH NO YOU DID-INT.” *Z-Snap* If our idols get called gay or stupid, we’ll defend them with all our hearts. How many of you have ever said something along the lines of this? “WELL, just because some of them have long hair and flawless skin, IT DOES NOT MEAN THEY ARE GIRLS! In fact, I think you’re just jealous.”
8. If an item has our biases’ or group’s name on it we’ll buy it. We absolutely love any Kpop merchandise with our idols’ faces on it. Cds, posters, lanyards, tshirts, socks, you name it, we love it. And when the order comes in the mail, mail men probably are terrified of fan girls the most. Why? Because we like to scream, squeal, and attack the delivery person for our package.

9. Fanchants. Where do you find fanchants anywhere else besides Kpop? Nowhere. Fans take time to learn it, make sure it’s on beat, and they even take energy to shout them as loud as they can. Idols actually feel very touched when they hear them.

10. For us, the end of the world is not 2012, not Judgement day or any other ‘the world is going to blow up’ day. It’s more of when a member of a group leaves or a group splits up. That’s our definition of an apocalypse for you. Or even sometimes, when an idol announces he has a girlfriend. Kpop idols actually have the ability to make fans cry, whether it’s because of something tragic or because a group won Music Bank for the first time. No worries though, we all eventually move on at one point. An example of that would be Jay leaving Korea.

Even though Kpoppers can seem a bit crazy at times or maybe even too obsessed, it’s only because we truly love the music, hot guys, pretty girls, and the great fun Kpop has to offer.

Butterfly

I just found this amazing video. The song is called Butterfly. The artist is G Dragon from KPop group Big Bang
Even when it is kpop what I really like is the video. Animated video that just had me at the bigining. even when he is the one singing he isn't the important thing on the video is the girl and the issue that he is showing her a new world. Now what fascinates me is the that the video is pretty much a fantasy land alice in wonderland style mixed with modern stuff. You see a gorgeous flying phoenix then she is riding an unicorn. Ah too perfect too colorful the way I like it. Great music video. I can see this will be one of my all time favorites from the KPop industry just because of the animation. It is art.

2012 Calendar

For a long time I've been trying to make a calendar. The other day I sat down and draw some stuff but couldn't do anything cause I didn't had the right stuff to do it (photoshop). Now that have been solved so here it is. 2012 single page calendar. I hope you guys like it.

Actually Puerto Rico doesn't have four seasons cause we only have hot, extremely hot or rain all day seasons. Since sometimes I long for all the seasons... I added all the seasons on the bottom. Yey!

Since all you know that I am on the South Korean trip I made available in English and English/Korean too. So go to the links provided and download them. They are HUGE it is not suppose to look bad. Also you see the link there reavel.tumblr.com is shorter than the one here so I will use that one and I will also post this there. In case you are wondering. ENJOY! comments are welcome and if you feel like donating well thanks in advance if you do.

High Cut April 2011 (송중기 and (유아인)

Updated: I have to take better pictures of this. [May 1st 2012]
Last month I bought on ebay the April issue of the magazine/newspaper High Cut from South Korea. I bought because it haves interviews/photos of Song Joong Ki (송중기) and Yoo Ah In (유아인). They are actors/models from South Korea if you are wondering. They worked together on the drama Sungkyunkwan Scandal which is a great drama. They worked so well together that for me their characters stories and relationship surpass the story of the leading couple .

I am so happy that it just arrived.  I opened it took cheeck it out and since it was all perfect i just took the pictures with the ipod and closed it again. No way I am opening that tube again. EVER!

Totally fan girling over this. Can't believe it.
Anyways I will post some photos but you can check the whole album here.

South Korea a Nation to Watch

South Korea a Nation to Watch is a special from History Channel. I found it thanks somebody else on youtube. If you have no idea of why South Korea is getting all this attention lately you should watch it and you might learn a few things. I know I did. It made me like the country even more. I admire their nationalism and the way they work so hard together for the good of the country. They have been through a lot of things as nation.

I think the tagline they are using on History Channel website for this complete video says it all.
"See how South Korea transformed into the economic miracle, its place in Asia today, and why it is seen by many to be a nation at ‘the centre of the world’."
South Korea a Nation to Watch is 47min long. Since the whole thing is composed by 4 videos I made a playlist so you can watch them all in one place. I hope you enjoy it as I did.

Back Home.

So Yes I am back home sooner than expected but quite ok about it. I was planning on getting here by December but well had to make a few changes. I am still quite tired from all walking I did the days before getting here. The luggage was overweight by only one pound. That was possible thanks to  the fact that I left a few things back at my uncle's house. I spent six months on Florida and I didn't miss a lot of things besides my close family and close friends... the rest you can get it anywhere.

The best thing about all the time I spent there was that I got to know more abohut my family cause even when I see them like every year I have never spent so much time with them and I am very happy with that. Also I got to spend a lot of time with my goddaughter and even made the cupcakes for her birthday. That was really awesome. Everybody loved them. I felt like the best aunt ever.

Anyways... I finally got to see Sondag. I missed her. Still haven't given her a shower cause she had some knots on her fur but I might to do it on the weekend. It is all back to normal between us. I have to confess that I also miss Jack a lot and wish I could have him here with me. I miss him walking around me. Such a good dog. Sondag might get jealous if she saw us together.  First thing I did was to fix my room cause it was full of cat hair all over.

I am still watching my Korean dramas and I am still listening my Korean music and I am still in love with South Korea. Before I got here I asked for requested a Korean Tourism guide and it should be here anytime soon. I hope. I have to get back on my hangul and romanization reading.

Have You Ever Been In Love?

Searching on tumblr for new music as I always do. I found this other Korean Indie band called Standing Egg. They have been around since october of 2010 for what I found on the internet. The band is composed by three musicians -two are composers and one is a writer- Clover (Vocal, guitar), Han Kyul (Double bass), and Hana (Djembe). Their music goes from folk to reggae, punk to pop and even jazz with hints of bossa nova. Therefore you already know you are in for a nice smooth ride.

The song that caught my heart (and the one that everybody seems to love the most) was Have you ever been in love? The vocals and music score on this one is light to the ears but heavy on your soul as it carries you on a joy voyage of instant happiness of been in love even if you are not in love at the moment. Yes I think that describes it well. They also have covers of other artist but please do listen to their songs cause they have a lot to offer. You can find more about them including their videos on their Youtube, Facebook or on Twitter.

Other songs I enjoyed where Lalala and I'm not yours. So be sure to check them out. They are pretty loved, respected and admired back in Korea on the indie scene. I'm really happy that I keep finding great musicians besides all the Hallyu and KPop things that every body loves. By the way you will notice that this video below says "with Ra.D" Ra.D is another K-Indie/K-Pop artist but I am still tracking down his info. Heard a song but I don't have a lot to tell you about him YET!

사랑에 빠져본 적 있나요 (with Ra.D) Acoustic Ver. (Have you ever been in love?)

Now this other video is a cover of this same song Have you ever been in love? but done by Kang Seung Yoon (강승윤). He is a new trainee on YG (an entertainment company in Korea). He is only 17 and is still attending high school. After watching this video I have high hopes for the kid cause he haves talent. Yes that is him singing. I am sharing this video too cause I loved his cover. This video was made as an advertisement for a clothing company but hey it works well with the video. This people know how to do stuff.

Dream High.... SNSD Genie cover.

I was watching Dream High a few weeks ago and for me the best part of all the series was when the kids did the cover of Girls' Generation Genie for the guy at the chicken place. Actually the song is a happy song. So it suites the occasion perfectly. The "kids" are all professional artists they all have singing careers either on boy/girl bands or as solo  artists. Dream High is a Korean drama. The song is in Korean but you can watch the original video with  subtitles in hangul/english/romanization here or read the lyrics to the song in romanization and english translation here. I'll give you a little back story on the why I find it cool.

..spoiler alert... if you have not seen Dream High...
On this scene the kids are singing a cover to Girls' Generation - 소원을 말해봐 (Tell me your wish/Genie)  to the bald guy to make him feel better and happy. Why? He was sad cause he failed his lawyer test again after studying and making many other sacrifices like leaving his family and starving in order to have a better life. After he failed the test he jumps from the roof of a building trying to commit suicide. He even fails at that cause he lands on top of a car. After he goes back to his home town and stays there to helps his dad with the chicken restaurant. Giving up on his dream of becoming a lawyer. The tall guy is his best friend and he comes up with the idea to go to his friend home town to surprise him by singing a song he loves and makes him happy.
Now that you know the back story you might understand why I love this part and why he is crying and everything. You should watch the series if you can. It is nice.

Do you collect anything? If so, what is it?

I collect many things along the years. Bottles, postcards, pins and many other things. I still have my kinder garden valentine cards and all the b-day cards given to me since i was born. If you ever sent me a letter on mail I probably have it too. :D Don't worry it is all organized, believe me.

Harry Potter... the end.

Yes. The end of an era have arrived. Harry Potter last movie came out last week. I have to admit that I was actually sad and excited at the same time. Sad because it all ends here but happy cause the end would be grand.

I got my ticket earlier because I feared that the tickets would be sold out. Perhaps I believed I was still back home and people would go all crazy about the movie but I was wrong. The movie theater was all kind of empty and I loved that. It meant I could enjoy the movie with out people bothering around mey. I also got this awesome 3D glasses shaped like Harry's glasses.  So cool! Yey!

Got there on time. Sat down and watched the previews that took forever. Then the movie started. During the movie I cried and laughed a lot. I felt like a little child. Loved the movie even when I knew some detail might be missed on it. The next days I downloaded the book cause I have mine back home in Puerto Rico. I read some of the key chapters so I could compare or well find out what they left out on the movie. The chapter 33 is a MOST read chapter cause you can really appreciate the whole Snape and Lilly relationship on the book.

I am actually in love with Harry Potter series now more than ever. You see like I have said before I've this tumblr thing and people are just posting so many things related to all the movies that it is insane... and at the same time it makes sense cause you can tie up details from different books. It is amazing. I am also looking forward to Pottermore.com. That is gonna be insane when it opens up on october. Well I hope they do open on october and that the page doesn't crash again like it did last month.

If you havent seen the movies or read the books you should. I am 32 years old now and I started like 10 years ago so I was not that young. I started the first book and I couldn't stop reading them. It is a good story you just can't deny that. You just can't. Sorry. If you have kids read the books to them. Keep the story alive. It is worth it. It is an excellent way of communicating with your kids and making them interested in reading. Their imagination will grow and develop at the same time. They will never ever forget it.  You can read my other Harry Potter posts.

어반자카파 (Urban Zakapa)

Heard this indie/jazz group from South Korea. Love their voices and their music is amazing. Learned from them thanks to one of the teachers from TalkToMeInKorean site. My favorite songs so far are Always Be Mine [] and Crush [(both are all in English) and 그날에 우리 (My Love) [(which is in Korean/English). I was able to find all their albums doing some deep research on the net. If you are into REAL music and artist with soul this band is a most.

어반자카파 (Urban Zakapa) is an indie-jazz group consisting of nine members; four vocalists and five instrumentalists. Of the four vocalists, there is one female 조현아 (Jo Hyun Ah) vocal and three male vocals 권순일 (Kwon Sun Il), 박용인 (Park Young In) and 최재만 (Choi Jae Man). Urban Zakapa is one of those bands that can’t to be missed out on as they leave a lasting impression on the audience with their musical endeavors.

In this video is an acoustic medley version of 'My Love', 'Butterfly (Fly Away)' and 'One Spring Day' from Urban Zakapa's first album.

Is South Korea that interesting?

Yes! Yes it is. I've to admit that I am in love. I fell in love with a country and its name is South Korea 한국. Where have you been all my life? I have been delaying this post for quite some time now. Honestly for months. Since last January I have been immerse in all South Korea. I started watching some dramas like most people that are on my same situation. From dramas you move to K-Pop which i am still trying to get into. I mean... I am all in for the guys but since I still don't quite understand what they are saying I can't say I totally into K-Pop. The dramas have Eng subs.. yes!

Anyways when I started watching the dramas I noticed that on many of them the subjects are "mostly" the same. But what I really loved or made me fall for the whole thing was they way they portrayed their traditions, food and culture along with the stories. That is what really caught my attention. For example: some one always dies or is already dead on the dramas therefore they do a funeral ceremony watch video and read here for more details so you get an idea. Someone always haves a birthday and they always ask if they had the seaweed soup. When someone gets married the mothers from both sided wear their traditional dresses for it. Also when they are finally boyfriend/girlfriend they guy/girl goes to the house to visit the "in-laws" which is another subject. Those "little" things caught my attention and I payed attention to that  and started googling the meaning or reason behind it.

Then you actually start talking or using their expression or understanding some words or at least try to figure out what they mean. I know I did. For example: nuna 누나 [if you are addressing your older sister and you are a male], hyeong 형 [if you are addressing your older brother and you are a male], if your brother/sister are younger than you you just call them dongsaeng 동생, your dad is abeoji 아버지 or appa 아빠 and your mother is eomoni 어머니 or eomma 엄마. An stranger is male is ajeossi 아저씨 [mr or uncle], and a stranger woman is an ajumma 아줌마 [mrs or aunt] and so on. This is just an example and you have to make sure you know who you are addressing to cause even they way you address to people have an order of formality [for your friend/family] and politeness [for strangers/older people]. I find all this interesting.

Some one asked me if Is South Korea that interesting?-I said yes. Yes it is. I started learning Korean a few months ago. Obviously I don't know a lot but now I'm using now the dramas, movies and music as learning tools. I try to understand the signs and the Hangul. I think learning Korean is easier than Japanese. It is kind of hard and no they are not just sticks and circles making strange codes. After you learn the alphabet you can get a better idea of everything. If you have never payed attention to Korean films please do so. They are great they go from love ones, to dramas, horror and all in between. You can check the movies I've watched here and the dramas I watched here.

I will probably make more posts related to this. I even started a blog on tumblr called I wanna go to South Korea where I keep information on almost everything related to well... South Korea [places to go, things to see and do, food, and so on.] South Korea like Japan haves temples and cherry blossoms always a plus for me. They are extremely advanced in the mobile and technology matter US haves nothing on them. Education is mad crazy there. Parents expend more than they can afford to make sure their kids get good grades and education so they can have great jobs when they are done with high school. Example your kid can get to school at 8am and get out from all school/learning related matters at 11pm cause they even have after school toutoring of English, math or some music instrument.

Also there are this cool places and towns that you get to see while watching the dramas/movies like Seoul, Hongdae, Incheon, Jeju Island, Daegu and Busan to name a few. Cause you see another thing that I like about the dramas is that the government is quite smart with this. They use it as a fantastic tourism tool. They show you all around the country and you end up like me in love with it. You get to see the hotels, buildings, parks, festivals, streets and practically their everyday living along the line with all the glamour they show on the drama. Also you get to see the issues they still have with Japan mostly the elders for obvious reasons. You get to learn about the military service that all males have to attend.

Now I have my bias, I know what selcas are, what OTP means, that fanservice could be a little bit awkward to most people but they find it quite amusing. I can fangirl but i could never ever compare to a real Korean fan cause they are hardcore. I hope that one day [even if it is at a Korea Town in US] I can drink some soju or makgeolli. I wonder if I will be able to handle the spiciness of their soups and kimchi full of red pepper paste. I am also an Elf, Rain's Cloud and I ship GiKwang-ssi and SiWon-ssi among other things.

Can you tell that I am really into this subject? I think you got my point. Enjoy the video. ^^

4th of July

My first real independence day the USA style. In Puerto Rico we have like no issue in celebrating US Independence day so we don't do like the whole nine yards. Still that doesn't mean we don't have a great time. We do try to spend the day with the family you know it is still a holiday and most of the people don't have to work. So we take out or bbq, just go to some park, beach or something.

Now been in Sebring where there are still rednecks and all that it is quite different. You always see that in the movies the whole town gathers around some lake and do the bbq and fireworks etc. Well I finally got to experience that. Found it quite cool. I mean is not that different from what we do back home but the feeling is totally different. People with flags and enjoying the independence they gain even when now days I don't actually think of what that really means at all. Anyways I had a great time.

I went to two different fireworks shows one on Sunday and yesterday went to another one. Both fireworks where awesome and I get to spend it with some of my family members. So it was all good. I took some photos last night and a video.

Come Closer

I just watched the movie a few days ago. Loved it and well had to do this video from the movie 'cause I didn’t found info on the OST. This actually like the last 7min of the film. If you have not watched this movie look for it and watch it. It is really good. It is about 5 couples and their relationships. It is an indie movie. Give it a try.

Music from Korean movie Come Closer 2010.
Don’t know the song or performers name. If you have any  info regarding this please DO send Thanks.

Weekend at Clearwater Beach, Fl.

Week update. Things I've been doing or things I want to share with you guys this week. I have been posting some of my daily routine via twitpic. You can also see the on the left column here on the blog. Most of the pictures are of food I had or cooked and places I visited. I hope you enjoy them.

I go to see a cousin I have not been able to see for like 3 years cause he moved to Indiana. I also got to see his stepbrother which I haven't seen like in 15 years. Can't believe it have been that long ago. Still it was fun to see them.

Last Saturday we went to Clearwater, Florida. It was my first time there and all I have to say is that I'm looking forward to visit again sometime with my family. We went to the beach there and ate a Philly Steak Sandwich at some place called Palm Pavilion Beachside Grill & Bar that had great food. We stayed at Comfort Suites. The service was awesome (also the front-desk guy, lol! Besides been cute he helped us a lot and even gave us an extra room for free just because the AC on one of the rooms we had wasn't working. <3) they have internet and wi-fi  (works perfectly on the hallway, lol!)

I am also adding some photos and videos (at the very bottom of the post) so you can see the beach and the area there.
